The Curries, May 2007 - featured on RTE's Room to Improve

The Problem
The Currie home in Dalkey is situated in a unique development, inspired by Californian architecture. Liz Currie loves to entertain but her kitchen, was dark, cold and had no views whatsoever. The Kitchen units were made from dark wood and while the Curries painted the kitchen several times in an attempt to brighten it up - nothing ever worked. The layout of the old kitchen did not use the space efficiently and was quite inaccessible.

The Solution
The main aim was to create a kitchen that was warm, bright, inviting and modern – giving the Curries a bright, modern space in which they could both entertain and spend quality time. The Curries decided to go for streamlined, red and black, high-gloss units that give the kitchen a modern look and feel. The white countertop gives the impression of more space, and at the same time, brightens up the previously darkkitchen. The new work space is coordinated perfectly so that there is plenty of counter space, making the kitchen more accessible and work friendly. The new look is contemporary, stylish and designed to the highest standard.

The Cost
All of Kitchen World's units start at the same base price, so the cost is based on the measurements of a kitchen and the accessories chosen to go in it. This Kitchen measures 3.5m x 3.5m x 3.5m and contains the following accessories:

Total Cost: €8,750

The 'Before' shot shows the Curries' old kitchen and gives us a clear image of how layout and design can dramatically change the appearance of a room. The old location of the window lets in very little natural light and the kitchen cabinets and counter top do not allow much working space.

The 'After' shot shows a totally different room. The new kitchen design and layout has completely transformed the Curries home. With its sleek high-gloss cabinets and a clever use of space., the kitchen's working space has been doubled and the entire room completely modernised.
